Liam has been showing signs that he may be ready to start using the big boy potty. Since I have been home alot more lately we have been encouraging that and he has used it a couple of times earning stickers and candy and praise. His interest in the potty seemed promising so it prompted us to go on a trip to buy the "big boy roos". We should have known when he was more interested in all the cool toys on the opposite side of the isle than the new underwear, that our end to diapers would not come as soon as we hoped. But we didn't, so we bought the underwear and off we went.
I decided that we just had to go for it. If it meant that I was going to be using the steamer every day then so be it. So, we have embarked on two plus days of soaked "big boy roos". Today the kids went to my parents in the morning and after putting the kids through a quick shower I was reaching for a diaper (I just couldn't do that to them right?) but then Liam said, "no, the big boy pants" and grabbed them and began to put them on. Hrmmm, could it be? So, we finished getting dressed and off to "The Moo's" we went.
Unfortunately the story does not have a happy ending....yet. We had an accident on the way there in the car and another one at Gramma and Papa Moos. On the advise of my mom and others, we have decided that maybe he just isn't quite ready yet. So for now, a little bit longer in the diapers.
It was cool to see the light at end of the tunnel for one kid in diapers and it has motivated us to keep encouraging. Hey, maybe we could just get them both potty trained at the same time. We could reclaim all that space in the bottom of our shopping cart when we go to Costco, and have $80+ extra dollars a month to buy more detergent to wash all those pee soaked big kid roos. Ahh, I will keep dreaming and diapering for now.
We did make progress with teeth this week. Jocelyn FINALLY got another tooth, she has been working on it since mid-December and she will probably get one more in the next month. Having only a few teeth hasn't stopped that girl from eating. She has been a funny eater too. She wasn't interested in food as early as Liam was, then when she decided to give it a try she cared less about fruit which seems strange. On top of that she went right from trying the mushy baby food to the real thing in a month or two. She eats a half a turkey sandwich for lunch (cut up) or a half a piece of toast and a whole scrabled egg for breakfast. The other night she ate about a third of an herb chicken breast and seemed to want more. She scares me.
I have taken a job as a substitute teachers aid with Summit Ridge Pre-School. When teachers need time off they can call me to fill in and I will also have the opportunity to train for the front office as well. The hours will be sporatic but I am excited to have at least something once in a while.
Charlie's schedule is finally going back to two days a week off and he will now have Friday and Saturday off starting tomorrow! Yeah! Woot! Yeehaw! The kids and I are so excited to have the time with him and he is even more excited to have time to actually rest during his weekend.
Next month we are off on a trip to Calistoga in Northern California. We will be going with Gramma and Papa Moo and will have the opportunity to meet up wth my Cousin Gwen, her husband Gary and their son Sage. I am so excited to just relax, have fun, and be away from home for a few days.
